A Taste of What’s to Come... Our First Wedding Menu Tasting Evening at The Barns at Redcoats

In March, we welcomed a group of our lovely booked couples to a very special evening at The Barns at Redcoats - our very first Wedding Menu Tasting Evening. A night dedicated to delicious food, good company, and a little bit of magic under our historic oak beams.

The idea was simple: give our couples the chance to experience our farm-to-fork dishes in the very space where they’ll soon be celebrating their big day. From the moment guests arrived to the final forkful of dessert, it was all about sparking inspiration, soaking up the atmosphere, and sharing the journey.

The Evening Unfolds

The evening began in the Cowshed Bar, where guests were welcomed with a glass of bubbles or their favourite cocktail. The brilliant Hobo Chic Music set the tone with live acoustic music while canapés made the rounds... delicious bites like mature cheddar cheese doughnuts with truffle aioli, and smoked salmon tartare tartlets with caviar, crème fraîche and chives.

Our team mingled with guests, answering questions and getting to know each couple better. Once the barn doors opened, guests were greeted by beautifully styled banquet tables by the talented Rustic by Rebecca. With candles lit and the fire flickering, the space was transformed into an elegant, welcoming setting for the evening ahead. Our MC, Mike Readings, introduced the team and kept the energy high with a fun wedding quiz as couples took their seats.

A Feast of Flavour

What followed was a three-course tasting menu that perfectly showcased our passion for seasonal, locally sourced ingredients and flavour-first dining.

To start, guests enjoyed dishes like our English burrata, served with aged balsamic, beetroot, herb Zhoug, toasted seeds and watercress... vibrant and earthy. Another favourite was the chicken thigh croquette, paired with baby gem, garlic croutons, a soft-boiled egg, crispy pancetta and a rich Caesar dressing.

For mains, lamb is always a favourite - and our roast lamb rump didn’t disappoint. Served with dauphinoise potatoes, fine beans, garlic shallots and a Savoy cabbage fricassée, it was brought together beautifully with a rich red wine jus. For those opting for vegetarian dishes, the homemade potato gnocchi with basil sauce, toasted pine nuts, parmesan and puttanesca vegetables offered a fresh, flavourful alternative. The leek, cheddar and portobello mushroom Wellington was a heartier choice - served with buttered spinach, caramelised cauliflower purée and a rich mushroom gravy.

To finish, we served a selection of our crowd-pleasing desserts. Our signature Farmhouse pavlova came with lemon curd, white chocolate cream and macerated mixed berries... light and zesty. Meanwhile, the white chocolate cheesecake with honeycomb, passionfruit curd and mango sorbet brought bold flavour and a touch of tropical sunshine to the table.

Each dish told a story... carefully crafted by our talented chefs. Rooted in our farm-to-fork philosophy, every plate was a celebration of quality, creativity and the very best seasonal ingredients.

Tasting Night Highlights: Feedback From Couples and Our Events Team

As it was our very first menu tasting evening, we were keen to see how it all felt - and it’s safe to say we were blown away. Charlie, one of our event planners, summed it up beautifully: “The atmosphere was just right... warm, relaxed and full of energy. I loved matching couples on tables I thought would click, and seeing those conversations naturally unfold throughout the evening. It really felt like the start of something special.

There were moments of joy and excitement all around - from couples seeing their wedding space dressed and glowing with candlelight, to the simple pleasure of talking through the dishes with our team. “I really enjoyed chatting in person,” said Megan. “It gave us the chance to share planning tips and answer all those questions that don’t always come up over email. There’s something so lovely about building that connection face-to-face.

And we were thrilled to hear how much our couples valued the experience. One shared, “It was great to visualise the space with food, drink, and music - it helped us imagine our day more clearly. Plus, meeting other couples and chatting over dinner made the whole planning process feel even more exciting.” Another couple told us they loved seeing the full menu laid out, even the dishes they didn’t try, as it gave them confidence in shaping their own wedding choices.

All in all, it was a joyful evening of flavour, connection, and creativity and the beginning of a new tradition here at The Barns at Redcoats. We can’t wait to host more!
